Olympic Park

Seeing Ann's pictures of her visit to the Olympic Park has shamed me into pulling my finger out and posting my own.  Although only a Geographer by marriage, I went as part of a Geographical Association Field Trip on October 15th - a gloriously sunny and unseasonably warm day.

The site itself is enormous: something which was driven home to us while walking around the perimeter, and confirmed when we saw it from the "viewing platform" (see subsequent post for pictures).

The location and conditions seemed particularly well suited to Infra Red...

We were taken to the "View Tube" - a metal structure holding a staircase, a classroom and a balcony.  All very well, but there was no way of getting from the staircase to the balcony while the classroom was locked or in use.  It wasn't even a tube, but I guess some marketing person thought the name was a good idea...

Unsurprisingly, security at the Olympic Park is very tight indeed.  Electrified fences and razor wire demonstrated how seriously a potential terrorist threat is being treated by the organisers.

We did find a chap with an Am I working Safely jacket, though.  I guess the answer was "yes", as he seemed to be leaning against some railings watching other people do the real work!

Finally, I was sorely tempted to half-inch the following notice.  It would have come in really useful at home...
