As always, Ann Miles has beaten me to posting some pictures from Friday's trip out to the Horse Trials at Little Downham, near Ely. Worse than that, Chris Fell has beaten me as well. Bummer!
So, only slightly late, here are a few pictures from the day. There will be more coming, but I thought I'd start the ball rolling with these. There was a certain amount of learning curve when it came to Horse Trials for me as I'd never been to anything remotely similar before. There were the inevitable decisions as to how to photograph the horses and riders, but also a lot to be picked up regarding the protocol of such an event. For a start, it seemed de rigueur to have a double-barrelled surname, or be called Hamish...
Random postings from an itinerant engineer who would rather be taking pictures or catching trout on the fly...

Stamford
On Sunday there was a trip out to Stamford, Lincolnshire, organised jointly by the RPS East Anglia Region and the RPS Travel Group. The aim of the day was to find out more about what constitutes "Travel" photography, and then put what we'd learned into practice by spending time wandering around the place taking pictures. Last year it seemed a great idea to schedule the event for May 31st, as the late Spring/early Summer weather should display the golden stone of Stamford in its best light. In the end it was cold, wet, windy and grey - a definite challenge for any kind of photography!
These are some of the pictures I took on the day. Whether they capture the "spirit of Stamford" I've no idea, but they are the best I could manage under the circumstances...
A couple taken inside All Saints Church. The figure is actually an engraving on glass which was being picked out by the light coming in from a door.
There were plenty of people around, despite the weather, but only a few were brave enough to sample the town's "cafe culture".
Stamford wasn't all beautiful stone buildings and chic boutiques...
I really must go back to Stamford when the weather is better, as it's a beautiful place which looks stunning in early morning or late evening light. It also has The George, which is reason enough to visit the place!
