Happy New Year from Joe

Between Christmas and New Year we were visited by Frances, Christopher and our adorable (and, it has to be said, increasingly adventurous) grandson.  These shots were taken at the Foxton recreation ground, where Joe had a wonderful time in the children's playground.

Just like his dad, Joe can't survive long without eating.  Sure enough, he brought a sandwich with him to the playground...

His face says it all, having been bundled back into the pushchair and about to go home.

Isla was sporting an injured back leg, but this didn't stop her wanting to run around like a mad thing chasing a ball.

Autumn Sunshine

It was such a beautiful afternoon that I took Isla for a walk around the fields between Newton and Foxton.  My original plan had been to avoid having to throw anything for Isla to fetch; but, within a couple of minutes, she had managed to find a stick and drop it at my feet.  Anyone would think that she was some kind of retriever.

At this point I removed the emergency backup toy from my pocket as this was far easier to throw than a stick.  Needless to say, the rest of the walk was spent playing "fetch" as normal.  Hey ho.

After all that running around it was essential to cool off in the river.

To add insult to injury, Isla managed to lose her toy on the walk back to the car.  Typical...

Baby Joe Comes to Cambridge

Our new grandson, born on December 14th, has made his first trip from Bristol to Cambridge.  It was a beautiful winter's morning, so Isla and I joined the Boreham family for a walk around the fields between Foxton and Newton.  First, a couple of Frances and Christopher with Joe in his rather splendid papoose.

Barbara and David - the other proud grandparents.

Isla, meanwhile, was more interested in chasing and fetching sticks...

...but sometimes she got left behind as a result!

Baby Joe is with us for the rest of the weekend, so hopefully I'll be able to post some pictures of him soon.

Cambridge CC "Wednesday Workshop"

Every month Cambridge CC runs a "Wednesday Workshop", each one targeted at a specific photographic technique.  The one at the end of June concentrated on tabletop photography, and several members took advantage of the meeting to hone their skills.

Ann, deeply involved in the setting up of her demonstration.

Sarah with a "you're dead if you take that photograph" look, which clearly didn't work.

Ann was in charge the fun - but rather messy - technique of dropping coloured ink into a fluid-filled tray, freezing the motion of the resulting shapes using multiple high-speed flashes.  If you look closely you will see that the apparatus is improvised from an up-turned coffee table with a piece of wood strapped to the legs using duct tape (what else?).  A hole drilled in the wood acts as an orifice through which an eye dropper can be inserted, and radio triggers are used to fire the flashes  - hopefully catching some interesting colours and shapes in the process.

These are a few of the "droplet" pictures I captured on the evening.
